Orange Bowl 2012: West Virginia Loses Key Starter Terence Garvin

West Virginia will enter the Orange Bowl minus a defensive starter, safety Terence Garvin.

Dec 22, 2011 - The 2012 Orange Bowl should be a points bonanza, based on the stars each playcaller will have to work with. That's just a little bit more likely now, with the news that West Virginia Mountaineers starting safety Terence Garvin will miss the game due to knee surgery, as coach Dana Holgorsen announced Wednesday.

Garvin is third on the team in tackles, also providing a handful each of sacks, interceptions and pass breakups over the year. Replacing him could be Wes Tonkery, Shaw Petteway or Matt Moro -- Travis Bell filled in the safety depth chart during a game Garvin missed earlier in the year.

The Eers will also be without backup nose tackle Josh Taylor due to a knee injury and running back Vernard Roberts due to academics.

As for the long-term future, Garvin has a good chance of making it back in time for spring ball.
