Read More: Walter Stewart (DL - Cincinnati), Johnny McEntee (QB - Connecticut), Munchie Legaux (QB - Cincinnati), Cincinnati Bearcats
The Cincinnati Bearcats improved to 9-3, finishing their season tied for first in the jumbled Big East standings. Their 35-27 win over the Connecticut Huskies almost certainly sends West Virginia to the Orange Bowl as the Big East's representative in the BCS.
A comeback effort by the Huskies, featuring two fourth quarter touchdowns, was simply not enough as the Bearcats had built a 23 point lead in the second half. Two UConn turnovers for touchdowns opened the game, spotting Cincinnati's offense a quick 14 points. On their first touchdown, the Bearcats' Walter Stewart simply ripped the ball out of UConn quarterback Johnny McEntee's hands. McEntee rolled to his left and Stewart closed on him, grabbing the ball with little effort for the score. Later in the first quater, Cincinnati would pick off McEntee and return it for the 14-0 lead.
On top of the two defensive TDs, Munchie Legaux finished the day for the Bearcats throwing for three touchdowns. The big lead gave Cincy the cushion to withstand two fourth quarter Connecticut touchdowns, and seal the 35-27 win.
