Sugar Bowl 2012: Virginia Tech Making Shocking Appearance, According To Report

Stay connected with SB Nation

For the first time in ACC history, the conference will put two teams into BCS games, according to CBS Sports. The Virginia Tech Hokies will reportedly head to the 2012 Sugar Bowl, where they'll face another at-large opponent, likely the Michigan Wolverines.

The Hokies have no real signature wins, and struggled against teams like ECU and Duke. They were blown out twice by Clemson, and didn't have to face Florida State.

Throughout Sunday, as the TCU Horned Frogs fell from a potential BCS perch and Kansas State kept looking likely to pop up elsewhere, we'd wondered who the other at-large team was. Welp. We'll see if this report holds true

The Hokies lost the 2011 ACC Championship Game to the Clemson Tigers, who'll head to the Orange Bowl. Here we go!

Game date, time: 8:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 3, 2012

Location: Superdome in New Orleans, La.

TV channel: ESPN

2011 winner and loser: Ohio State, Arkansas
