Hugh Freeze Named New Ole Miss Football Coach

Stay connected with SB Nation

As had been reported, Arkansas St. Red Wolves coach Hugh Freeze is returning to Oxford. The up-and-coming offensive guru has been named the new head coach of the Mississippi Rebels, replacing Houston Nutt. Archie Manning recorded a special announcement just for you.

Freeze had a few words to say of his own:

Hugh Freeze@HughFreeze_ASU To the players at Arkansas State. I LOVE EACH and EVERYONE of you. I'm sorry, i truly am. I hope that in time you will forgive me.

Freeze has shot through the ranks, coaching at a Tennessee high school (where one of his players, Michael Oher, went on to fame and fortune) and at NAIA Lambuth, with a stop as an Ole Miss assistant along the way. His points-scoring acumen is well-regarded, but obvious questions remain about his ability to win at a level as high as the SEC.
