Nebraska Cornhuskers defensive coordinator Carl Pelini will take over for Howard Schnellenberger as the second coach in FAU Owls history. His deal is worth $2.49 million over five years. The deal was approved Monday morning and is being announced at a Monday afternoon press conference.
In their eight years as a FBS program, the Owls have two bowl trips (and two bowl wins!), but mustered just five wins in Schnellenberger's final two seasons. With a brand-new stadium and evergreen recruiting territory, Pelini has his chances to compete in the Sun Belt, but it's gonna take some doin'.
Pelini coached defense at Nebraska alongside his brother, head coach Bo Pelini. He hasn't been in charge of a program since his high school-coaching days a decade ago, but fielded a pair of top-10 defenses during his four years in Lincoln. Just send him another Ndamukong Suh, and we'll be all set.
