Finalists for the 2011 Heisman Trophy will soon be announced. Baylor's Robert Griffin III and Alabama's Trent Richardson are the likely favorites. Stay tuned here for updates as soon as the news comes out.
The 2011 Heisman Trophy's finalist list will be unveiled 6 p.m. ET Monday. Expect Alabama Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson, Baylor Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III, and Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck to make the list, but the last spot or two could go several different ways. Or it could hold steady at three. If it does, there's your three.
In a just world, LSU Tigers everything Tyrann Mathieu would also make the cut, but he plays on the wrong side of the ball. We'll see.
In his latest Heisman Trophy Watch -- which isn't meant as a prediction, but rather a stats-informed take on the award -- our own Bill Connelly foresaw Richardson as the likely winner, though he's more impressed with Griffin's accomplishments. The rest of his top five, in order, was Luck, Houston Cougars quarterback Case Keenum, and Oklahoma St. Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden. Events from a busy Saturday likely would've switched the last two.
Just missing the top five, on Bill C.'s latest list, were USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley, Wisconsin Badgers running back Montee Ball, Oregon Ducks running back LaMichael James, Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson, and Boise St. Broncos quarterback Kellen Moore.
