Hawaii Warriors head coach Greg McMackin has resigned his position

After reports emerged earlier today that Hawaii Warriors head coach Greg McMackin was expected to resign his position, news broke on Monday night that he had resigned as Hawaii coach. McMackin has been Hawaii's head coach for four seasons and was entering the final year of his contract.

McMackin served as the offensive coordinator under June Jones, who led Hawaii to a BCS berth, before Jones left and McMackin was promoted. In his time as Hawaii head coach, McMackin accumulated a record of 29-25. Hawaii plays in a very weak Western Athletic Conference and has had very recent success, so it's not hard to believe that the university wasn't happy with their coach's performance and that this resignation is at least partially based on the way the team has performed.

Hawaii finished 6-7 on the season, 3-4 in the WAC. They needed to defeat the BYU Cougars on Saturday to become bowl eligible, at which point they likely would have played at home in the Hawaii Bowl. Hawaii lost that game at home, 41-20.
