We're reminded on a near daily basis that giving free gifts to student-athletes is strictly forbidden and goes against the nature of amateur athletics and everything the NCAA holds dear. And to provide free gifts to college football players results in harsh penalties, ends careers and alters programs for years to come.
With that said, let's find out what kind of free gifts college football players will be getting from bowl games this year (College football is neat!).
Among the biggest ticket items available are a 32-inch flat screen TV (Meineke Car Care Bowl), a Playstation 3 (Beef O'Brady Bowl), a Galaxy Tablet (R & L Carriers Bowl) and shopping sprees at Best Buy (Champ Sports Bowl) and Belk (Belk Bowl, duh).
Oakley's is clearly trying to win over the college football athlete demo. Five different bowl games will give away their gear.Same goes for Ogio, who's giving their Fugitive Backpack (ahem) to players in five games.
Hyundai Sun Bowl participants walk away with a Helen of Troy hair dryer. So there's that.
The saddest gift collection? The Little Caesars Bowl, which provides a watch, a duffel bag and a "commemorative football" to the student-athletes. You can't even throw in a few breadsticks? You're already forcing these kids to play their bowl game in Detroit, the least you can do is throw them a gift card to Applebee's.
