Derrick Woods Commits To Oklahoma Sooners Over Alabama, USC And Others

Oklahoma grabs another blue-chip receiver out of California.

Derrick Woods, a top receiver from Inglewood, California, has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners, Crimson and Cream Machine reports:

Originally it was believed that the Sooners were recruiting Woods to play safety, but recently he had revealed in interviews that the coaches had told him they wanted him at wide receiver. Woods had always made it clear that WR was his preferred position, so it would appear he is getting his wish. However, even before adding Woods' substantial talents OU is in the midst of putting together an incredibly impressive WR class. So while the coaches seem to have given in to the CA star's preference, the depth chart has a tendency to change minds on occasion. I'm not making any predictions as to whether his future is at wide receiver or safety per se, but as I said when a kid is this talented you get him on campus and let his talent work things out.

Woods is a four-star by most services, and is widely considered one of the top 20 receivers in the country. He also held offers from Alabama, Florida, Oregon, and USC. The 5'11", 185-pound Woods does most of  his damage after the catch. He can make people miss, but is also strong enough to muscle smaller defensive backs. Look for Oklahoma to use him in the slot.
