Sam Houston State Vs. Montana State, 2011 FCS Playoffs: SHSU Looks To Extend Win Streak

Sam Houston State own a 14-game winning streak extending back into last season. Montana State hope to quash the Bearkats' hopes for an undefeated season during Saturday's 2011 FCS Playoff quarterfinal.

The Sam Houston State Bearkats got a scare last week, coming within a touchdown of losing to Stony Brook who were in the FCS Playoffs for the first time. A loss would have ended a perfect season, and a 14-0 record extending back to last season. The Bearkats hope to extend their Division I leading winning streak against the Montana State Bobcats in the quarterfinals Saturday, as well as move one step closer to winning a national championship.

The Bearkats will need to shore up a defense that gave up 376 yards in the second round of the playoffs, 226 coming off of play action passes. The Bobcats are 12th in the FCS averaging 436 total yards of offense per game. Quarterback DeNarius McGhee has been Montana State's efficient leader, completing 61 percent of his passes for 2,527 yards and 23 touchdowns on the year. Georgia Southern will try to counter the Bobcats with one of the best running games in the FCS. The Bearkats average 244 yards per game on the ground, with 1,235 yards coming from running back Tim Flanders on the season.

Saturday's quarterfinal will be broadcast at 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. For more news and a full television schedule of the weekend's action check out SB Nation's FCS Playoffs page.
