The Montana Grizzlies opened up the FCS playoffs with a match up against the Northern Iowa Golden Panthers. UNI got on the board first, taking a rare lead over the Grizz at home thanks to a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tirrell Rennie to Tyler Sleverton to put the Panthers up 7-0. It didn't take long for the Grizz to tie the game up however, thanks to some tough running by Jordan Canada, who punched the ball in from one-yard out to tie the game.
Montana kept their foot on the pedal to keep their 10-0 win streak in the playoffs at home alive. Grizz quarterback Jordan Johnson ran in a touchdown to take the lead 14-7. NIU added a field goal to answer, but after that it was all Montana going into halftime. A rushing touchdown by Peter Nguyen and then a passing touchdown by Johnson set the Grizz up with a big 28-10 lead going into the half.
Tonight's game is the first game of the round, with the rest of the quarterfinal match ups to be played on Saturday. Check out the full television schedule of this weekend's games.
