South Carolina Receives Jadeveon Clowney Letter Of Intent

Stay connected with SB Nation

Good news for any South Carolina fans worrying about Jadeveon Clowney's somewhat iffy quotes after his televised commitment to the Gamecocks: Clowney's decision is official now that South Carolina has his National Letter of Intent, according to 247 Sports' South Carolina site.

Don't know what a National Letter of Intent is? Here's an explanation:

By signing a National Letter of Intent, a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. ... An important provision of the National Letter of Intent program is a recruiting prohibition applied after a prospective student-athlete signs a Letter of Intent. This prohibition requires participating institutions to cease recruitment of a prospective student-athlete once a National Letter of Intent is signed with another institution.

Basically, Clowney's going to Columbia for the fall and can't be recruited by any other schools now. Will that settle the most skittish South Carolina fans, who will probably worry about Clowney transferring until he's either graduated or left for the NFL Draft? No. But it's at least confirmation that Jadeveon Clowney will be a South Carolina Gamecock for the 2011 season.
