It's already been a rough week for Ole Miss football. D.T. Shackelford tore his right ACL in practice Monday and has a projected recovery time that will probably eliminate him from the field for the entirety of the season. Wednesday it was announced that quarterback Nathan Stanley has decided to leave the football program.
Houston Nutt confirmed the news in "a one-word text message" to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger's Kyle Veazey.
Stanley was in the midst of a four-quarterback competition to replace Jeremiah Masoli. While Randall Mackey, Barry Brunetti and Zack Stoudt all seemed to show promise this spring, Stanley hadn't been as fortunate and had reportedly fallen to No. 4 in the order.
It's a strange turn for the guy who likely would have been Ole Miss' starter last season has Masoli not transferred from Oregon.
