UVA LB Ausar Walcott Reinstated Following Suspension

One of three Virginia Cavaliers football players suspended since February for an epic UVA-JMU off-field skirmish has a chance to see the field again: Linebacker Ausar Walcott has been reinstated to the team by Mike London after all charges against him got either dropped or dismissed. Walcott was arrested, along with cornerback Devin Wallace and center Mike Price, and charged with assault after a scuffle in Harrisonburg.

Walcott's reinstatement doesn't necessarily mean he'll regain the starting spot he held in 2010. In addition to being moved to defensive end and placed at the bottom of the depth chart (he missed all of spring ball while serving the suspension), Mike London has some plans for him that don't sound too pleasant:

"Ausar’s not out of the woods," London said, "but he’s back to being involved in football activities again. ... Maybe it's a new lease on life for him."

A rising junior, Walcott missed all of spring practice, which concluded last week. He’ll meet daily with London, who said "there’s still some things he has to do for me."

The other two errant Cavaliers have yet to be taken off suspension, and London has not set a timetable for their return.
