Dana Holgorsen's Casino Ejection Could've Been Sixth Such Incident, According To Report

You know West Virginia Mountaineers head coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen was tossed from the Mardi Gras Casino & Resort early May 18, but did you know the run-in may have been the third, fourth or even sixth alcohol-related incident of Holgorsen's in the past six months? That's what it looks like, according to a list of reports collected by the Times-Dispatch's Chuck Landon.

Holgorsen has reportedly been banned or asked to leave his hotel bar and two other local bars since taking the WVU job, with a 2008 incident at another watering hole also being reported.

The offensive coordinator has reportedly been told he's already on his last chance. It would be a shame to see the coach lose out on the opportunity he has in front of him. If all reports are accurate, hopefully the attention the casino event stirred up has served as a warning signal.

West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen Escorted From Casino Friday Night

Dana Holgorsen was hired by West Virginia as its football program's head coach-in-waiting this season. While he waits to become the head coach, Holgorsen is apparently spending some of that time waiting in the local casino. At least until they kick him out.

Multiple sources told the Charleston Daily Mail Holgorsen was removed from Mardi Gras Casino & Resort after 3 a.m. May 18.  Holgorsen had been at a Mountaineer Athletic Club function earlier in the day in Logan before spending the evening at the casino with other university representatives.

Holgorsen's behavior allegedly reached a point that necessitated involvement from on-site security, sources said.  Holgorsen was escorted out of the casino with the episode caught on surveillance.  University representatives who were with Holgorsen were said to have then intervened. No arrest was made.

West Virginia AD Oliver Luck actually left the Big East spring meetings early to come back and deal with the mess.

For his part, Holgorsen apologized for the incident and is extremely sorry for the situation.

"I learned a valuable lesson from this incident. As a football coach, I am always in the public eye and I have to hold myself to a higher standard, which is what I ask our players to do," Holgorsen said in a statement. "I'm sorry that this incident has put the University and the football program in a difficult position. I will not put myself in that situation again."
