Miami DT Jeffrey Brown Arrested On Sexual Battery Charges
Miami defensive tackle Jeffrey Brown, a rising redshirt freshman, was expected to suit up for the 'Canes for the first time this season, but thanks to some appalling alleged choices of action, he may never bee seen in team colors again: Brown was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery on a helpless victim. He's reportedly already confessed, and has been suspended indefinitely from the team while the legal process runs its course. (And just for good measure, team officials appear to have scrubbed his information from the university's football website.)
Brown, 19, hails from Evanston, Illinois, where he shone at Evanston High but was only of middling regard as a college prospect (Rivals ranked him as a two-star recruit, and he had only three BCS-conference offers before committing to Miami). Our friends at Rivals have the complete police report posted for public perusal. His accuser is a student whom Brown was reportedly helping back to her room after she'd had too much to drink.
SB Nation's Miami bloggers don't think this development will hurt the team on the field, although it's a nasty PR hit given other recent offseason altercations:
