Cliff Harris Suspended For LSU Game At Least, Says Oregon Football

Stay connected with SB Nation

Daredevil cornerback Cliff Harris has been suspended indefinitely by Oregon Ducks football, the school announced Wednesday night. That will include the season opener in Dallas against the LSU Tigers, perhaps the biggest inter-conference game of the regular season.

Chip Kelly really didn't want to have to suspend perhaps his best defender to begin Oregon's BCS title game followup, but there you have it. Harris didn't exactly leave Oregon much of an option here, having committed a dastardly act in an especially brazen fashion, then reportedly failing to show up to court to rectify the situation.

Kelly on the suspension:

Cliff's future clearly is in Cliff's hands. Earning an opportunity to represent the University of Oregon and this football program certainly rests far beyond a player's ability on the field of play. Our behavior out of the spotlight often is more important and will be held to a higher standard. Until Cliff is able to conform to the same standards all of us must comply with, his status will remain unchanged.
