UConn WR Mike Smith Academically Ineligible For 2011
The Connecticut Huskies football team will need to look for a new No. 1 wide receiver when they begin fall camp. Senior wide receiver Michael Smith was ruled academically ineligible for the 2011 season. He was the team's leading receiver in 2010 with 46 receptions for 615 yards and two touchdown reception.
Kashif Moore had a team-high four touchdown receptions but just 36 receptions for 452 yards. Isiah Moore, Leon Kinnard, Gerrard Sheppard and Dwayne Difton will need to step up in Smith's absence. However, first-year coach Paul Pasqualoni said that Smith will be around to practice with the team. Junior tight end Ryan Griffin (31 receptions, 245 yards, 1 touchdown) will also be looked to steady the receiving corps.
With running back Jordan Todman's early departure for the NFL and an unsettled quarterback starts (Michael Box is the favorite), the Huskies will need to figure things out early on.
