Russell Shepard missed the SEC Media Days for what was originally unspecified reasons. On Friday, it was reported that he LSU wide receiver missed the annual affair due to an "off-campus housing issue," but it seems that there was a little more to the story than that.
Shepard has been living with a student who works in the LSU football office, according to ESPN's Joe Schad, and the issues ultimately come down to how the rent was being split between the player and the athletic's office worker.
LSU is hoping that Shepard is available when its season opens on Sept. 3 against the Oregon Ducks at the Dallas Cowboys' stadium in Arlington, Texas, according to Schad. It's unclear how likely Shepard not being suspended at all is, however, considering that the details of his NCAA frowned-upon living arrangements are just leaking to the press -- and perhaps the school -- this week.
