Miami head football coach Al Golden will resolve the quarterback battle between Jacory Harris and and Stephen Morris by August 22, CBSSports.com notes. He will allow the two quarterbacks to fight it out until then, although he says he will not be shy about picking a starter before August 22 if one shows he's ahead of the other.
"I think we're going to allow the quarterbacks to continue to compete, and we'll make a determination sometime between 19th and 22nd of August," Golden explained to the assembled media at the ACC Football Kickoff on Monday. "If one distinguishes himself prior to that time I'm not afraid to name one sooner."
Harris, now a senior, was Miami's starting quarterback in 2010 until he had to leave the team's October 30 game against Virginia after taking a brutal hit. Morris, now a sophomore, then stepped in and was mostly promising, leading the Hurricanes to a victory over Maryland in his first start, but Miami lost to Virginia Tech and South Florida down the stretch, with Morris getting benched against South Florida. Miami also lost the Hyundai Sun Bowl against Notre Dame, although Morris racked up 282 yards against the Irish.
