According to Iowa State University Police records, Brooks, 23, was observed driving down the wrong way of a one-way street around 2:54 a.m.
Brooks is a senior and played in every game for the Cyclones in 2010, recording one tackle. He was also named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Brooks was a junior college transfer to Iowa State from The College of the Desert in 2009, when he redshirted.
Operating while intoxicated is classified as a "serious" misdemeanor in Iowa, and, if convicted, first-time offenders can serve up to a year in jail, pay $1,250 in fines plus a 35% surcharge, and face driver's license revocation for 180 days to a year.
There's no word on what punishment Brooks will face from Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads.
