Tate Forcier To Join San Jose State Spartans

Stay connected with SB Nation

Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier is headed to the Spartans. No, not those Spartans. To move from Michigan to Michigan State would be far too prosaic for a cultivated man like Tate Forcier, who tends to think well outside the box when choosing colleges.

Instead, Forcier has chosen the San Jose State Spartans. He'll report to the team at the end of next week.

Forcier was Michigan's starting quarterback as a freshman in 2009. He lost his job to Denard Robinson in 2010, but still managed to play quite a bit, completing 54 of 84 passes for 597 yards. He lost his academic eligibility before the team's bowl game and did not return to classes in the spring. Then head coach Rich Rodriguez was replaced by Brady Hoke.

It was initially reported that Forcier would transfer to Miami, but then he bowed out due to "personal reasons." Then he was rumored to be headed to the University of Hawaii, but the Warriors decided his academic issues would probably prevent him from being with the team in the fall. So now, he's a Spartan ... but will he stick there for good? It's hard to say. There probably are still a few new time zones somewhere with some football teams Forcier hasn't thought about. You can't keep the QB FORCE in one place for too long.
