Christian Scott Reinstated To Texas Football After Misdemeanor Assault

Texas safety Christian Scott has been reinstated to the Longhorns after pleading no contest to misdemeanor assault, according to the AP. Scott was arrested earlier this month after losing his cool when his car was repossessed. He was suspended indefinitely from the team Aug. 8.

Scott wasn't able to practice during the suspension, and won't be allowed to play in the Longhorns first three games. He is eligible to return Oct. 1 against Big 12 foe Iowa State.

"We're disappointed any time one of our players makes a poor decision, and Christian understands he made a mistake," (UT head coach Mack) Brown said. "He has taken responsibility, is accepting the consequences of his actions and has returned to the team."

Scott was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and two years' deferred adjudication. He was facing Class A misdemeanor charges, which carry up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Christian Scott's Arrest For Assault Stemmed Attempted Repossession

On Monday afternoon, Texas safety Christian Scott was arrested on the mysterious charge of "assault with bodily harm," with no further details available. Head coach Mack Brown suspended Scott indefinitely, expressing disappointment in his mistakes a short time after work broke. But what did Scott do to end up behind bars and suspended from the Texas football program?

The Austin Statesman got its hands on the arrest warrant and the details involve a failed repossession and an alleged assault of a woman.

Scott, whom Doyle said she recognized from a previous repossession of Scott's Cadillac last year, got out of the Mustang and began yelling profanities at her, according to the report. Doyle told police that Scott pulled her from the Cadillac and threw her to the ground.

Scott then fled in the Cadillac, according to the affidavit. He was arrested at a nearby gas station.

Being "recognized from a previous repossession" is never a good thing. Scott is still suspended from all activities as the Longhorns prepare for their 2011 campaign.

Texas Safety Christian Scott Arrested, Suspended Indefinitely

Texas safety Christian Scott is in legal trouble after being arrested for "assault with bodily harm" on Monday. Scott was detained at about 1 p.m., and head coach Mack Brown acted fast when handing down his own punishment. A short time after word of Scott's arrest broke, Brown suspended the senior defensive back indefinitely as he waits for the legal proceedings to play out.

Mack Brown expressed disappointment in Scott's arrest while suspending him and left the terms of his punishment open with the football season less than a month away.

"We’re aware of the situation with Christian Scott and disappointed any time one of our players is accused of wrongdoing," said head coach Mack Brown. "We’ve talked to Christian and his family, and he has been suspended from all activities with our football team. Following the completion of the legal process, we will do what’s best for the university, Christian and the team."

Scott was expected to compete for the starting job at safety in fall camp after starting 10 games in 2010.
