Aug 10, 2011 - Craigslist is not the place for a college athlete to peddle leftover painkillers for spending money, as San Diego State tight end Hunter Hewitt found out. On Tuesday, Hewitt pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug possession charge stemming from a July 1 arrest in an Albertson's parking lot. Hewitt was picked up after reportedly trying to sell hydrocodone on the popular get-rid-of-anything site, but had the charge reduced to a misdemeanor.
Luckily, prosecutors took a variety of factors into account and decided to reduce the felony charge he was arrested for to a misdemeanor. Like his status on the San Diego State football team!
"We took a good look at it, and we figured it was misdemeanor conduct," Peed said. "We balanced it against his grade-point average and the fact he was in the San Diego State football program and had no other record. Balancing it all out, we thought it was fairest disposition for everyone."
His status now reads "suspended," according to head coach Rocky Long. Long told reporters Hewitt and one other Aztecs player, Brandon Davis, would be suspended for the first, and perhaps second, game of San Diego State's season.
