NCAA Sends Notice Of Inquiry To UCF, Plans To Investigate Football, Basketball Programs

UCF gets hit with a Notice of Inquiry from the NCAA less than two weeks before the start of the season.

Two weeks until the start of the college football season, and yet another athletic department has been hit with a Notice of Inquiry. The NCAA will investigate UCF for allegations involving the school's basketball and football programs. UCF President John Hitt released statement on the matter, saying exactly what you probably expect:

"Compliance is the top priority for UCF athletics; playing by the rules is the only way to play," Hitt said. "We will cooperate fully with the NCAA. If we have done something wrong, we will deal with it in a manner that is consistent with our responsibilities as a member of the NCAA and our own high standards of conduct."

It has been alleged that Chicago resident Ken Caldwell and Louisville resident Brandon Bender were responsible for improperly steering DeMarcus Smith as well as two other recruits to the UCF basketball team, adding to an already rough summer for the school. A jury ruled in July that UCF was negligent in the death of UCF football player Ereck Plancher, awarding the parents $10 million in the case.
