The UConn Huskies have said they won't announce who their starting quarterback will be until the day of their season opener against Fordham. You can now consider sophomore Mike Box out of the running as he has decided to transfer to a FCS school.
This time last year, Box was hailed as the QB of the future for UConn. Thrust into the spotlight and the starting spot when Cory Endres was suspended for the season, Box finished 4-for-12 for 35 yards and an interception in a 26-0 loss to Louisville. Box played in five games overall for the Huskies.
Johnny McEntee and Michael Nebrich are considered the top two contenders for the starting job, meaning Box would have been on the outside looking in when it came to playing time. Clearly, the writing was on the wall.
No word yet on where Box will transfer to. He hails from Suwanee, Ga. He will be the fifth player to transfer since Paul Pasqualoni took over the program.
