Texas Football Names Garrett Gilbert Starting QB For 2011

Garrett Gilbert struggled for Texas football in 2010, but will return to the starting quarterback's job for 2011.

Garrett Gilbert had a rough 2010 season for the Texas Longhorns, but the junior quarterback will have a chance to redeem himself in 2011. Gilbert has won a four-way battle to become Texas football's starting quarterback, and will start the season's opening game against Rice this coming Saturday.

Last season, Texas went 5-7, recording their first losing season since 1997. Gilbert struggled throughout the year, throwing for just 10 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Texas has undergone a bit of an overhaul with their coaching staff, as last year's offensive coordinator Greg Davis and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp have both left the team, albeit under much different circumstances. Davis has been replaced by co-offensive coordinators Major Applewhite, who has been with Texas since 2008, and Bryan Harsin, who joined Mack Brown's staff from Boise State.

The No. 2 quarterback behind Gilbert is Case McCoy, the younger brother of former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy.
