No. 9 Oklahoma State will be without two starters for its season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette. Starting free safety Johnny Thomas and starting wide receiver Michael Harrison have been ruled ineligible for the Cowboys' 2011 opener.
It is unclear why Thomas and Harrison were suspended — SB Nation's Oklahoma State blog Cowboys Ride For Free is stumped, too — but it's unlikely that their absence will be any huge drag on Oklahoma State. The Cowboys will plug in the very athletic and fantastically-named Daytawion Lowe at safety for Thomas, who had three interceptions in 2010, and Harrison may be replaced in parts by Josh Cooper and/or Joseph Randle.
The Cowboys enter 2011 with one of their finest teams under coach Mike Gundy, and could be a national championship contender if they can outduel No. 1 Oklahoma in the Big 12 South.
