Injured Oklahoma Sooners linebacker Travis Lewis was supposed to miss as many as eight weeks after hurting his foot late in the offseason, but it doesn't sound like he's going to miss anywhere near eight games. In fact, earlier Monday, Lewis was talking like he could return for Oklahoma's second game this weekend against the Florida St. Seminoles:
Toe feels amazing . . Just finished jogging and feeling very very optimistic. I can walk and run, pain free without the toe hurting . . . All these equals GAME TIME! For everyone that's that's asking. . . Ill let y'all know by the end of the day if ill going to play this week
And then a couple hours later, Lewis had to share the bad news:
Won't be playing this week . . Still another week away. Sorry sooner fans
But it's really not that bad, since he's clearly optimistic he can return to the field more quickly than had been forecasted. While OU won't have him for a huge game against the Noles, Lewis' hopeful timetable puts him in line to make it back for conference play.
