No. 18 West Virginia head to College Park in a rivalry game, so to speak, but an early season test for two teams with new coaches eager to prove themselves.

West Virgina vs. Maryland is perhaps the most tepid rivalry in college football. They were longtime equals in relative obscurity, then Rich Rodriguez went to Morgantown and upset the balance of power, slamming it hard to the west while Maryland floundered without a rival.

Now, No. 18 West Virginia is very good, but not great, and the Terps are actually the high-profile team for once, though not for the greatest of reasons. But, as any Terp fan will tell you, when it comes to the football team, they'll take whatever publicity they can get.

Meanwhile, the Mountaineers suffered a brief scare at the hands of lowly Norfolk State during week two — they were losing at halftime — but the offense took some of Michael's Secret Stuff in the locker room and came out all super-muscly and pumped up and wound up winning 55-12. They're now 2-0, but after beating Marshall in week one, have yet to experience a true test.

The Terps certainly fall under that description. Though Miami was without eight suspended players, they're still Miami and have plenty of talent all over the depth chart. Maryland typically struggles with tough teams to open up the season, but under new coach Randy Edsall, the whole foundation of the team is changing. We'll see if it's for the better or not, and a big step will be taking down the Mountaineers. The Terps have lost to WVU five straight times.
