No. 11 South Carolina hosts the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday night.
The No. 11 South Carolina Gamecocks host the unranked and undefeated Navy Midshipmen on Saturday night. Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier would like to keep his 42-0 record against non-BCS schools intact, an impressive mark that includes a perfect 16-0 record since arriving in Columbia.
South Carolina is coming off a big road win over the Georgia Bulldogs, with quarterback Stephen Garcia returning to a starting role to complete 11-of-25 pass attempts for 142 yards and a touchdown. The strength of the Gamecocks offense lies in its ground game, with sophomore Marcus Lattimore logging 50 carries for 288 yards and four touchdowns in the first two weeks of the season.
Senior Antonio Allen has been the standout of the defense thus far. Playing the "Spur" position, Allen has 22 tackles, 1.5 for a loss, one interception, two fumble recovers and two forced fumbles this season.
Navy opened the season with wins over Delaware (40-17) and Western Kentucky (40-14), using their potent, No. 1-ranked ground game (400.5 yards per game), led by senior quarterback Kriss Proctor, to wear down the opponents.
