With Big East and ACC realignment rumors a-swirlin', the West Virginia Mountaineers are making an early case for their inclusion in a power conference. That's a lot of weight to put on a first quarter touchdown, but look! Big East and ACC teams playing each other today. Awkward.
The Eers led the Maryland Terrapins, 7-3, after Vernard Roberts carried in a nine-yard touchdown run, but a Terence Garvin interception return made it 14-3. In the hyped quarterback duel between WVU's Geno Smith and Maryland's Danny O'Brien, Smith has so far looked more impressive. He's 9-of-11 for 94 yards, while O'Brien is 8-of-13 for 33 and said interception.
Expect a little gunslignin' in this one. Maryland's down a pair of top receivers, but still has to try and keep up with West Virginia's productive offese. And if that Mountaineers defense can start producing too ...
