Utah Vs. BYU Score: Bad Snap, Fumble For Cougars Result In Utes TD

Stay connected with SB Nation

Just three plays into this former Mountain West Conference matchup and the Utah Utes have a 7-0 lead over the BYU Cougars. BYU received the ball to start things off and ran a play for a loss of three yards to start things off. But what followed was not planned. The center made a bad snap, which Jake Heaps was unable to fix. Heaps followed the ball and picked it up, instead of falling on it.

Heaps attempted to throw the ball, but all that resulted in was a fumble and a trip to the end zone for the ball. Utah's Derrick Shelby fell on the ball for the touchdown. Heaps, a sophomore, needs to learn that it's better to take the loss of yards instead of attempting some face-saving throw. In this case the throw made him lose face.
