Whether the Syracuse Orange move to the ACC in the future is the hot rumor of the moment, there was no such commotion over a possible victory over USC on Saturday night. The Trojans easily handled the Orange, 38-17. Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley tied a career high with five touchdowns passes in the game. He was 26-of-39 for 324 yards.
Barkley's favorite receiving option was sophomore Robert Woods, who caught eight passes for 82 yards and one touchdown. Woods' touchdown (31 yards) was one of three by Barkley that was longer than 30 yards. Marqise Lee and Randall Telfer caught a 43-yard and a 44-yarder, respectively.
Syracuse held a 3-0 lead in the fourth quarter and kept things interesting when a wide receiver-to-wide receiver touchdown play happened in the third quarter. However, USC's defense did its job and kept the Orange out of the end zone for the most part (Syracuse did have a late touchdown in the final quarter).
USC takes to the road next week against Arizona State. Syracuse hosts the Toledo Rockets.
