Florida Vs. Tennessee Final Score: Gators Win In Will Muschamp's First SEC Game

Florida has its first SEC win under Will Muschamp. But the 33-23 triumph the Gators scored against Tennessee in The Swamp was not nearly as easy as it could have been.

The Gators survived a sloppy second half that included two Tyler Bray touchdown passes — Tennessee's quarterback had three for the game — and the lion's share of their staggering 15 penalties.

But Tennessee had virtually no answer for Chris Rainey, Florida's dynamic speedster. Rainey rushed for 108 yards on a career-high 21 carries, added the longest touchdown reception in school history on an 83-yard catch-and-run, and blocked the fifth punt of his college career, and all of that despite briefly heading to the sideline with an apparent shoulder injury.

Tennessee sorely missed its best offensive weapon, Justin Hunter, who went out with a knee injury in the first quarter and did not return. Da'Rick Rogers (five catches, 62 yards, one touchdown) and Mychal Rivera (five catches, 71 yards, one touchdown) provided production, but the Vols couldn't stretch the field without their deep threat, and couldn't come back from a 30-7 hole in the third quarter because of it.

Florida Vs. Tennessee Score Update: Chris Rainey Stakes Gators To Big Lead

Florida's built its lead over Tennessee in the third quarter, but the Vols have gotten a touchdown back, and now trail 30-13.

Florida's first touchdown came on a fourth-down run by Trey Burton, capping a seven-play, 42-yard drive, but its second was spectacular. One play after being met by two Vols in the backfield on a toss, Chris Rainey took a John Brantley checkdown and blazed through the Tennessee defense for a 83-yard touchdown reception, the longest in Florida history by a running back.

Tennessee pulled a score back by capitalizing on a Florida turnover. Jeff Demps had the ball ripped out after being stood up on carry, and Tennessee took advantage of great field position to get its second score of the game on a strike from Tyler Bray to Da'Rick Rogers. But a failed two-point conversion try leaves the Vols three possessions back.

Florida Vs. Tennessee Halftime Score: Gators Up, But Will Muschamp Is Livid

Florida seemed like a juggernaut early on against Tennessee, but late proficiency from Tyler Bray helped the Vols right the ship in the second quarter. At the half in Gainesville, Florida leads, 16-7.

Bray and the Vols put together a six-play, 89-yard drive in the second quarter to score the first touchdown against Florida's defense this year, and appear to be finding a rhythm through the air after flailing with a more balanced run-pass approach in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the Gators went from wreaking havoc early to drawing tons of penalties late. Florida committed eight penalties for 80 yards in the first half, including four pass interference infractions. That string of yellow flags earned the referees a tongue-lashing from a livid Will Muschamp as the half ended, as the fiery Florida coach berated them on the way to the locker room.

Florida Vs. Tennessee Score Update: Will Muschamp's Gators Dominant

Florida may not be the same sort of dominant team that Urban Meyer won two national championships with, but the Gators have dominated Tennessee so far in Will Muschamp's first SEC game as a head coach. The Gators lead, 16-0, in the second quarter in Gainesville.

Florida kicker Caleb Sturgis has followed an early touchdown from John Brantley to Trey Burton with three first half field goals, and he's gotten the opportunities to kick them because of Florida's overwhelming defense.

Since Justin Hunter left the game on Tennessee's first offensive series, the Vols have failed to earn even one first down, repeatedly giving the Gators great field position. And Chris Rainey compounded the Vols' field position problems by blocking a punt, the fifth of his Florida career.

But old red zone woes have kept the Gators from turning this game into a blowout. Florida's had first downs at Tennessee's 11- and 13-yard line and come away with only field goals.

Justin Hunter Injury: Tennessee Loses Star WR Against Florida

The key to Tennessee's success this season is likely to be the passing game, and particularly the connecting between Tyler Bray and his solid wide receiving corps. And one of the key members of that corps is Justin Hunter -- which is why it had to be sickening for Tennessee fans to see Hunter land and immediately crumple on an early play in a crucial game against Florida.

Hunter appeared to hurt his left knee. And he was later seen walking gingerly toward the locker room, though it's obviously not yet clear how badly he's hurt.

Last year, Hunter had 16 catches for 415 yards and seven touchdowns. He was on pace to breeze past those marks this year, having already caught 17 balls this year for 314 yards and two touchdowns so far this season. How soon he returns will decide whether he can pass them anyway.

Florida Vs. Tennessee Score: Gators Bolt Out Of The Gate

Florida and Tennessee are renewing their rivalry in Gainesville today, and the key match-up before the game was assumed to be Tennessee's potent offense against Florida's talented defense. It turns out that the Vols may have a high-octane attack to deal with, too.

Florida used a no-huddle hurry-up offense to keep the Vols off balance on the first drive of the game, and John Brantley completed all five of his passes for the Gators, finding Trey Burton for a one-yard touchdown pass to finish the drive and help give Florida a 7-0 lead.

The Gators have won six straight games in this series, and haven't lost to Tennessee since Ron Zook was prowling the sidelines in Gainesville.
