One of Texas' oldest college football rivalries reignites Friday night when the No. 14 TCU Horned Frogs visit the Baylor Bears. TCU holds a 50-49-7 lead in the universities-near-Dallas series, which dates back to 1899.
Baylor, in one line: their quarterback makes their offense really good, but that's about it. TCU, given the same treatment: their defense should be as fast and mean as ever, but they have a brand-new quarterback. It's not quite a tale of opposites, but there's some symmetry to it.
Most will tune in to see whether the Frogs have a chance at replicating their run from last year. A return to 2010's juggernaut form would put the Boise St. Broncos on notice in the Mountain West and set up an actual really big MWC game that probably wouldn't end as gruesomely as TCU-Utah, the game of which nobody speaks.
But don't forget to check out Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III, who would be a Heisman favorite if he played for Texas or Oklahoma, having posted 4,136 yards and only eight interceptions in 2010. He's had a passer rating over 142 at the end of each season in which he's participated.
