Pac-12 Expansion Vote To Come Within Week, According To Report

Current Pac-12 schools will vote on expansion at some point later this week, requiring at least 9 votes to approve.

Sep 20, 2011 - With Oklahoma and Texas officially allowed to explore the possibility of leaving the Big 12, the Pac-12 has informed the AP that a vote by the school presidents on whether or not to expand is expected by end of week.

According to conference rules, at least 9 votes will be needed in order to approve the expansion of the conference.

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners have both expressed public interest in leaving the Big 12 and joining the Pac-12. If they were to join, the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Oklahoma State Cowboys would likely come with their in-state rivals in keeping with the set-up of the conference. At that point, the Pac-12 would become the Pac-16.

However, we're still a long ways from that.

There is no guarantee that the conference will approve the measure, especially when it means that some current Pac-12 schools would be moved into a division separate from others. If they were not voted in, and Oklahoma had to go back to the Big 12 after saying it wanted commissioner Dan Beebe to be removed, things could get very interesting.
