Brady Hoke's current team topped Brady Hoke's former team, 28-7. Michigan set the tone early against San Diego State with a dominant first half, with Denard Robinson rushing for three touchdowns.

The Aztecs clearly made some adjustments at halftime, though, forcing three turnovers in the third quarter: two interceptions by Robinson and one lost fumble by Stephen Hopkins. But even with Michigan's generosity, San Diego State took advantage only once, a 16-yard touchdown from Ryan Lindley to Colin Lockett. They simply couldn't stop Michigan's ground game, allowing the Wolverines to grind out the clock.

Robinson finished with 200 rushing yards (139 coming before halftime) on 21 carries. Fitzgerald Toussaint chipped in 12 carries for 66 yards, while Vincent Smith carried the ball nine times for 47 yards, including a fantastic 32-yard gain in the opening quarter. Robinson rarely threw the ball, which is a good thing for Michigan: he completed just eight of 17 attempts for 93 yards and the two aforementioned picks. 

Ronnie Hillman was effective rushing the ball with 109 yards on 22 carries for San Diego State, but his effort was marred by two lost fumbles. Lindley racked up 253 yards and a touchdown, but he threw the ball 48 times, averaging a measly 5.3 yards per attempt.
