South Florida wide receiver Terrence Mitchell was taken to the hospital on Saturday night following a scary hit on a punt return that left him motionless on the turf. Mitchell came up from his position to lay a hit on the UTEP punter during a fake punt. While UTEP did convert on fourth down, Mitchell laid a massive hit, but paid the price for it, going down immediately in what was a scary moment.
Trainers immediately rushed to his side and followed the typical protocol we see in similar situations, keeping Mitchell from moving before placing him on a stretcher. He was placed on a cart and taken from the field for further evaluation.
There is good news, though, and Mitchell's injuries do not to be serious. Mitchell was diagnosed with a concussion as a result of the hit, but that appears to be the extent of it.
#USF Terrence Mitchell has a concussion. All work was precautionary according to USF trainers.
Thankfully, he only suffered a concussion after a collision that looked much worse at the time.
