The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are a lot better than their current 1-3 record suggests -- the fact that they took Dan Mullen's Mississippi St. Bulldogs to overtime should've been our first clue, but still. The Bulldogs won 26-20 once Chris Relf passed to LaDarius Perkins for a 16-yard touchdown, but it's just the story of the season for La Tech.
They've lost by two to Southern Miss and one to Houston, with their only win coming against Central Arkansas. If only for a bounce or two going differently in each game, Sonny Dykes' crew might have a wholly different record right now.
On the other side, Mississippi State lost a lot of talent to the NFL Draft this offseason, and it's definitely showed at times. They played well enough to win against the Auburn Tigers before putting up about as good a fight against the LSU Tigers as could be expected, but a three-turnover advantage against a WAC team, even a good one, shouldn't require quite this much of a fuss.
