The Arizona State Sun Devils hadn't beaten the USC Trojans in 11 straight games. USC turned the ball over four times, including an interception returned for a touchdown that pretty much put the game out of reach. It was the first time the Sun Devils have beaten the Trojans since 1999.
ASU's star linebacker Vontaze Burfict picked off Matt Barkley, who actually made the tackle on Burfict. To everyone's surprise, Burfict then help up Barkely who earlier in the week called him a "dirty player". "He's a dirty player," Barkley told the LA Times. "His switch is always on. And it's not a good switch."
Trojans quarterback Matt Barkely struggled, turning the ball over twice, including an interception by Shelly Lyons that was returned for a touchdown and all but sealed the deal for the Sun Devils. ASU quarterback Brock Osweiler threw for just over with two touchdowns, but the Sun Devils rode running back Cameron Marshall to the victory. Marshall ended the day with 141 rushing yards and three touchdowns, including a 70 yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
USC falls to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-12 with the loss, while ASU improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Pac-12.
