The South Caroline Gamecocks enter the 2012 Capital One Bowl against the Nebraska Cornhuskers with 10 wins on the season, just one win shy of setting a new school record for wins in a season. With the 10 win mark, South Carolina tied the 1984 record for most wins in the school's 118-year history. They'll also be looking to end a streak of bowl losses, losing their last three bowl appearances. "Since I've been here, we haven't won a bowl game and so we're trying to go out and change that, got out and get that 11th win and make history," defensive end Melvin Ingram said.
South Carolina's offense has been hit or miss and even plodding along when they are "hitting" now that quarterback Connor Shaw has taken over. The South Carolina offense has become more run oriented, especially with the running ability of Shaw. "There's nothing wrong with the way we're playing, if you can run the ball decently, you got a chance to score some points and you got a defense like we got," head coach Steve Spurrier said.
The Cornhuskers on the other hand make their first bowl game as a member of the Big 10 conference. Nebraska is coming off two disappointing appearances in the Holiday bowl, losing both match ups including their defeat to Washington last year after bowing out of the Big 12 title game. "Of course there's going to be a different attitude," linebacker Lavonte David said. "Last year we played in the same bowl game two years in a row and played the same team we played already. This year we get a better opportunity, a better bowl game, a much tougher team, an SEC team. The guys are already pumped up."
