Barrett Trotter is set to forego his final year of eligibility in college football and leave the Auburn Tigers football team

Barrett Trotter had a rocky junior season for the Auburn Tigers, and he will not be returning for his senior season. Following the departure of Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, Trotter was given the nearly impossible task of keeping a less talented Auburn team competitive in his first season as a starting quarterback.

He did enough to keep his job until the loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks, where he was benched mid-game for Clint Moseley. He appeared, but was not the primary passer in the following game against the Florida Gators. Trotter did not play in the team's following five games, but went out in the best way possible. With Moseley injured, Trotter started the Chik-fil-A Bowl and helped lead the Tigers to a win over the Virginia Cavaliers.

Said Trotter, about his decision to leave the Auburn football team:

"My four years at Auburn has been a great experience and I'm thankful for the opportunities that I've had, however, I have decided to forgo my senior season. I'm truly blessed to have been a part of winning seasons and championships during my time at Auburn. I'm also very appreciative of Coach Chizik and the coaching staff, as well as my teammates and the entire Auburn family."

According to AP college football reporter John Zenor, Trotter is not going to transfer. He completed his undergraduate agree in August and has been enrolled in graduate school at Auburn since the fall semester.
