The Wisconsin Badgers have officially replaced new Pittsburgh Panthers head coach Paul Chryst with Matt Canada, who comes to Madison by way of the Northern Illinois Huskies and not Canada. The most prominent question: just how Wisconsin is Canada? The coach, not the country, which borders Wisconsin and is thus pretty darn Wisconsin?
To avoid any confusion over where he stands philosophically, Canada added, "We're going to run that offense and use the talent that we have and also the talent that we can recruit to.''
Citing the "unbelievable tradition of offensive linemen, running backs and tight ends'' that have made up the brand, Canada acknowledged that UW coach Bret Bielema made it clear what he wanted.
NIU ranked No. 11 in the country in offense last year, but some may be surprised to note they did it largely on the ground. With quarterback Chandler Harnish running for 1,379 yards and top back Jasmin Hopkins adding 963 of his own, the Huskies ranked ninth in the country in rushing yardage. That's all we have to evaluate him by regarding his NIU tenure, as it was his only year as a coordinator in the MAC. Before that, he ran the Indiana Hoosiers offense for four years.
