Michigan Wolverines athletic director Dave Brandon doesn't like the idea of a college football playoff, partly because lower-level teams would have to play storied power programs from the biggest BCS conferences, all of which would be just too much for the smaller schools to handle without being injured into oblivion.

Well by all means focus on that game
Rather than the 95% of games against 1-AA schools that BCS schools have won over the last 5 years or the fact that the mid-majors were 6-69 against Sagarin’s BCS top 30.
The really absurd part about including all conference champions in a playoff is the fact that you’re trying to correct a problem which doesn’t exist. Boise, TCU, and Utah were all rated highly enough in their respective years that they would have gotten an at-large bid anyway. How does giving Northern Illinois, who got stomped 49-7 by Wisconsin this year, do anything other than increase the risk of injury and make the playoffs less competitive?

I believe they are mearly trying to point out the irony in Michigan saying something like this. It isn’t really a serious article about the fairness of it.

I don’t see anyone talking of including division 1-AA schools. And could your argument not be made for college hoops too? Do you think the NCAA ball tournament is a bad system? Not to mention a playoff would improve parity through better recruiting from enhanced exposure.

risk of injury?
I’m anti playoff and even I think that’s a weak argument. Also he says that small schools’ players would get hurt if they played Bama. Bama played Kent St, North Texas, and GA Southern. Last time I checked they weren’t dead (GA southern was able to rally its destroyed corpses and make it to the semi finals). If the presidents and ADs want to avoid a playoff, the best thing they can do is keep their smarmy, condescending mouths shut. This is why I hate the big ten.

Come on...
In order for Michigan to ever be in the hunt again they need there to be as few schools involved as possible. So naturally he wants the small schools out.
Too bad there hasn't always been a DH...then we never would have to hear about this Ruth guy...
