Tempe's Insight Bowl, formerly known as the Copper Bowl, will be known as something else going forward. This may be hard for many of you to stomach, as we've grown so very fond of the good people at Insight and the many quality products they fashion with their hands. But things change. Three lists of Tempe-specific potential replacements follow:
The modern bowl game is named after a company. Institutions based in and around Tempe, according to Wikipedia and elsewhere:
- Circle K Bowl
- The Gin Blossoms Bowl
- Insane Maricopa County Sheriff Bowl
- LifeLock Bowl
- McFarlane Toys Bowl
- Mobile Mini Bowl
- Piranha Interactive Publishing Bowl
While I would be ecstatic to watch either the Circle K Bowl or the Piranha Anything Bowl, this bowl demands a return to its roots, to the days when all bowls were named after local exports. The Bauxite Bowl and so forth. Here are some chief exports of Arizona, according to the Census Bureau:
- Molybdenum Ore Bowl
- Electrical Plugs and Sockets Bowl
- Bomb Bowl
- Tomato Bowl
- Soybean Oilcake Bowl
- Photosensitive Diode Bowl
OMG THE BOMB BOWL OR THE SOYBEAN OILCAKE BOWL. The bowl could also be named after events local to Tempe. Another list:
- Circle K Tempe Music Festival Bowl <--- Even better!
- Tempe Spring Festival of the Arts Bowl
- P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon Bowl
- Tempe Family Halloween Carnival Bowl
- APS Fantasy of Lights Bowl
- Fiesta Bowl New Year's Eve Block Party Bowl <-- I believe we have our winner
