Gordon Gee Ready To Ride The Slippery Slope

Ohio State president Gordon Gee, a man Jim Tressel has not yet fired, once called a college football playoff system "a slippery slope to professionalism" while praising the BCS for excluding inferior teams. He's apparently changing his tune these days:

Star-divide

Just like that, so many of the Big Ten's suits and haircuts are on board with a playoff? It's like these guys were all reprogrammed at the same time. It's amazing.

Just for context, here's more from Gee's famous "Little Sisters of the Poor" sermon:

"I'm a big fan of the bowl system," said Gee, who added that he would favor the old bowl system more than a move to a playoff. "I think it's all about giving student-athletes an opportunity to be recognized. It's not about this incessant drive to have a national championship because I think that's a slippery slope to professionalism.

"I'm a fan of the bowl system and I think that by and large it's worked very, very well. And I think the BCS by and large is working very, very well. You know, it's a mystery. You remember three years ago we played for the national championship. We were No. 1 then No. 11 then No. 7 and we ended up playing for the national championship. I think I kind of like that mixed-up mystery."
