Terry Bowden and Jim Tressel, together at last! The Akron Zips are doing a fine job of collecting famous former head coaches, hiring the fired-ish Ohio St. Buckeyes coach to come aboard as a Vice President of Strategic Engagement, where his duties will be bringing together alumni and community organizations to help the school. Nobody knows what that means, but it's probably about branding, as everything else is. It's a non-athletic department role.
Tressel left Ohio State after it was revealed he misled the NCAA regarding benefits that had been accepted by players. He worked for the Indianapolis Colts at a booth assistant during the NFL season and was reportedly in the running for the Colts head coaching job at one point.
The coach worked as a graduate assistant at Akron from 1975 to 1978, his first coaching job.
