Greg Davis's Name Turns Up In Iowa Coordinator Rumors

Stay connected with SB Nation

A potential Iowa coordinator candidate: Greg Davis, formerly of Texas.

The Iowa Hawkeyes still need new coaches, whether it's late February or not. Having no offensive coordinator despite bringing on a pair of hires over the weekend, Kirk Ferentz could be looking to a former Texas Longhorns coach for the duty.

Davis followed Mack Brown to Texas from the North Carolina Tar Heels, and previously worked for the Georgia Bulldogs and Arkansas Razorbacks. Before that, he was Tulane's head coach, and now we're into the 1980s. He was at Texas for a really long time, you see.

His exit from Austin was not commonly mourned by Horns fans. Any Iowans hoping for aggressive playcalling in the post-Ken O'Keefe era would likely be disappointed by a potential Davis regime. He was, however, the 2005 Broyles Award winner as the nation's top assistant and has put together some excellent offenses in his time.
