Montana Football Coach Robin Pflugrad, AD Fired Amid Sex Assault Investigations

Montana has fired its football coach and its athletic director, perhaps while dealing with questions regarding their roles in a number of assault investigations involving football players.

The Montana Grizzlies have fired their head coach, Robin Pflugrad, and athletic director, Jim O'Day. No reason has been given for the sudden move so far, and the coach has refused to comment on any specifics. The sudden timing, coming months after most football teams make coaching staff adjustments, makes it natural to wonder whether there's something more to it.

It's not hard to speculate that a series of sexual assault investigations against Montana players from over the past two years may have played a role, but there's been no solid connection to this point between the numerous investigations and the two firings.

Pflugrad was Montana's head coach for two years, coaching their wide receivers in 2009. He spent almost a decade as a Grizz assistant earlier in his career before taking jobs with Arizona State, Washington State and Oregon.
